AS TEAM GEARS UP FOR TAIPEI TOURNEY,
CEBUANA BEGINS MSSL TITLE DEFENSE

The Manila Slo-Pitch Softball League (MSSL) Fall Season 2006 opened with a blast as the Cebuana Sluggers scored a twin win against the California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) and Pera Padala teams.

Cebuana fired 15 runs during the first inning of their game against CPK with 11 of its players batting on base before the first out was made. Pitchers Randy Dizer and Pepe Muñoz held CPK scoreless all throughout the game. Playing team owner Jean Henri Lhuillier, Apol Rosales, Julius Visaya and Raymund Mariano contributed one home run each. The game ended with Cebuana at the upper hand with 25 runs.

Out for the kill, the Sluggers displayed the same level of intense play against sister team Pera Padala with an 18-2 tally at the end of the game. Balanced hitting, excellent pitching from Muñoz and two homeruns from Rosales kept the Pera Padala squad at bay.

The team's performance came as no surprise for team owner Jean Henri Lhuillier as months of preparation paid off for the team. Cebuana is set to go to Taipei this month for the 7th Asia Taiwan Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament to be held on September 23 and 24 at the Taipei City Baseball Stadium.

"There's a sense of chemistry and excitement that we all share together as a team. The momentum is still there following our great finish at the MSSL Spring Season. We hope to duplicate that in Taipei and again at the ongoing MSSL Fall Season," said Jean Henri Lhuillier.

As the Philippines' representative to Taipei, Cebuana is fielding a team formed around the nucleus of the Cebuana Lhuillier Slo-Pitch team. Tryouts conducted as early as July this year have helped add some players to the team, to further boost the team's chances.
