The Cebuana Lhuillier Slo-pitch Softball Team made a dazzling show of force when they dominated the demonstration tournament that introduced the game to Cebu at the Cebu Boardwalk yesterday.

The Cebuana Lhuillier Sluggers beat sister squad Le Soliel de Boracay 16-12 followed by a 25-6 mastery over the Cebu Flag Football/CIS PTA selection team. This was followed before dismissing Cebu fast-pitch multi-title holder Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) 18-0.

Instead of playing the championship match ASAPHIL Slo-pitch commissioner Jean Henri Lhullier decided to call off the championship game and went to give the aspiring athletes who attended the four-hour clinic last Friday a chance to display their game.

With its 3-0 win-loss record the Pangaea Super Division, Bangkok International and the 22nd Southeast Asian Champions were declared winners of the Cebu Invitational demo games. Le Soleil de Boracay, who won two in three games was declared first runner-up.

SCSIT beat the CFFL/CIS PTA team 17-0 in a called off game after four innings.

The game between the Cebuana Lhuillier and Le Soleil as well as the Le Soleil vs. SCSIT game were the most thrilling matches of the day.

Cebuana Lhuillier had a 15-8 lead after the fifth inning when Le Soleil rallied hard at the top of the sixth making five runs with only one player down before the champion squad stepped up its defense to pick its first win of the day. Against the weary SCSIT, the Cebuana Lhuillier proved too much as the game was called off using the mercy rule at the top of the sixth.

The game between SCSIT and Le Soleil was tagged as the most important game of the day as the winner would surely advance to challenge the Cebuana Lhuillier team

Le Soleil started the game hot scoring five runs including two homers for a 5-0 lead and after erecting a 9-4 lead in the second inning, SCSIT made a strong third inning scoring seven runs before they lost steam and allowed the visitors to score the final nine runs.

Cebuana Lhuillier also logged 13 homeruns in three games while Le Soleil only had five. Le Soleil also beat Salazar 18-11 and the CFFL/CIS PTA 9-3.

While the two games played by the clinic participants were even with each team winning one game each.

In three games, the young Lhuillier had six runs but it's the edge of the international champions in size and height that gave them a clean sweep.

At the end of the day, Lhuillier handed out medals to both the SCSIT and CFFL/CIS PTA players, baseball caps for excellent performers, gloves for the youths and softballs for the Cebu Association of Batted Sports.

With the Cebu leg a clear success, Lhuillier is starting with the Cebu Slo-pitch Softball League on July 30 with already six participants confirmed to play in the seven week tourney.

Aside from making slo-pitch popular to Cebu, Lhuillier is also planning to lease out the Cebu Boardwalk, so he can build a diamond for the Cebuano public.
