CEBUANA LHUILLIER IS MSSL PLAY-OFFS CHAMP
In a remarkable show of stamina and determination, Cebuana Lhuillier won five tough games in one day to clinch the championship in the recently concluded Manila Slo-Pitch Softball League (MSSL) 2006 Playoffs.
Team Cebuana was all fired up as it made its way to the semis finishing off Motorola, 22-8 and sister team Pera Padala, 23-14. Fueled by its back-to-back win, Cebuana secured their place in the finals by beating Handle Bar, 10-3.
Meralco on the other hand disposed of Handle Bar in the quarterfinals, 12-5 to essay a twice to beat advantage.
But Cebuana delivered a twin-win over Meralco in the finals posting a 15-5 score in the 1st game before closing the battle with a tight 14-10 victory in the 2nd game. Jean Henri Lhuillier punctuated each game with one home run each.
"I credit the boys for showing strength of character and for being able to deliver great games even under pressure. Winning those five games are achievements brought about by team effort. We may not have been able to accomplish it if not by teamwork," said Jean Henri Lhuillier.
Prior to their playoffs title, Cebuana Lhuillier (www.cebuanasluggers.com) finished their Regular Season campaign with an impressive 10-1 win-loss slate over six other teams to snatch the MSSL Spring Regular Season crown.
Starting off as an exclusive league for U.S. embassy personnel in the mid-70's, MSSL today provides a venue for local slo-pitch softball players to play at a competitive level.
