CEBUANA LHUILLIER SLO-PITCH TEAM KICKS OFF CEBU CLINIC
Cebuanos will start adding slo-pitch softball to its bustling playground as the Cebuana Lhuillier and Le Soliel de Boracay slo-pitch teams arrives today for a four-hour clinic from 2-5 p.m. at the Cebu City Sports Center field.
The two teams are owners of various titles including the Pangaea and Bangkok International crowns. They will arrive at 10 a.m. today and will stay at the Cebu Midtown Hotel.
Although the clinic is part of ASAPHIL Slo-pitch Commissioner Jean Henri Lhuillier's program to promote the sports nationally, the three-day stay of the players is also a treat for winning back-to-back Pangaea International Slo-pitch title and the Bangkok International Slo-pitch championship last year.
"I am confident that Cebuanos would come in droves to see and learn how slo-pitch is played. This is new to some but this sport is slowly gaining popularity in the entire Asian region so basically we will bring it to Cebu to spread the game not just as a recreation sport but as a competitive game," said event organizer Rayner Sangil. Sangil himself is part of the champion Cebuana Lhuillier squad although he may opt to play for the Cebu Flag Football League squad that is among the participants of the one-day demonstration tournament. The event will be held at the Cebu Boardwalk in Mandaue City Reclamation Area.
Today's clinic will teach wanna-bes the mechanics of the game, which will field 10 players on defense and will have 13 players who can bat. The regular fast-pitched softball only allows nine players in both occasions.
At the end of the clinic, the organizers will make some gimmicks that include batting challenge among others.
Lhuillier will personally supervise the clinic himself.
