BLU GIRLS END OPLYMPIC BID
Tainan City, Taipei - After a heartbreaking loss to New Zealand yesterday, the RP Blu Girls bowed to Chinese Taipei, 3-0, in their match this morning to end their bid for an Olympic slot.
With both teams scoreless up until the fourth inning, a fielding error by the RP contingent allowed the Taiwanese to walk twice. The Taiwanese struck gold and scored three runs to finish-off the Blu Girls.
Scoring chances for the Blu Girls came in the second and sixth innings with runners on base. Yet like in the previous games, the RP team failed to deliver during the crucial moments. The RP Blu Girls likewise lost to North Korea yesterday afternoon.
The Blu Girls hope to salvage a fourth place finish as they play South Korea this afternoon. The Blu Girls must win by a margin of three runs to place fourth over-all in the six-team tournament.
Chinese Taipei meanwhile, with a 9-0 win-loss card, waits for its opponent, a toss between New Zealand and North Korea, for the play-offs on Tuesday.
Winner of the tournament will represent the Asia/Oceania region in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
