Meralco won all its four games in the last two playing days to seize solo lead in the ongoing fall season conference of the Manila Slo-pitch Softball League (MSSL). Meralco's 10-1 win-loss slate leads the 9-team field.
Close at the heels of Meralco and likewise winning all its games in the last two Sundays is the Pera Padala team, sister team of Cebuana Lhuillier, with its 10-2 record.
Erstwhile leader Handlebar, composed mostly of expatriates working in the country, was solo third, toting an 8-2 record while defending champion Cebuana Lhuillier kept its title-retention hopes alive by taking 4th place with its 7-3 record.
Cebuana Lhuillier, the country's top slo-pitch team with its string of international titles the last two years, could have tied HandleBar if not for the heart-breaking loss it suffered at the hands of HandleBar last Sunday at the Manila Polo Club.
The game saw veteran slugger Julius Visaya of Cebuana Lhuillier hitting a homer right in the first inning with all bases loaded for an early 4-0 lead. Handlebar rallied in the last four innings, highlighted by two runs in the bottom half of the 7th and final inning, to squeeze out a hard-earned 7-6 win over last year's fall season champions.
"What is important is that we are still in the running. We had a slow start this season as we started the league lacking in players. We divided our regular players into two teams, at the same time, our players who are also part of the national team are deep in training for the SEA Games," said Cebuana Lhuillier playing team owner Jean Henri Lhuillier, who is also ASAPHIL Commissioner for slo-pitch softball.
The rest of the standings has BYOB at 4-7, the Bulldogs, Rizal Technological University and Team USA with similar 2-7 slates, while bringing up the rear is A & IS, still winless after 10 games.
MSSL Games are played Sundays at the Seafront and the Manila Polo Club.
